After 20 years of designing and delivering training for a wide range of public and private sector industries I was asked to manage the offsite company training academy. It was a self-contained, full service venue; and it became the first of many opportunities I had to consult on the design of a learning environment.

 

I was determined to create a place that was conducive to learning. One where people wanted to learn, that supported the learning objectives, reflected the culture of the organisation, and that delivered a clear return on investment.

 

To achieve this I drew on the years of experiencing what it was like to train in both challenging and delightful environments. I tapped into my own knowledge of learning and development practices and I consulted with colleagues. I referred back to my degree in hospitality & tourism, which introduced me to the impact of experience, ambience and customer satisfaction. I also extended my research to include design of corporate and educational environments.
